Generate Design for Manufacturing Workshop

Background:

While working with Generate Product Development as the Engineering Events Coordinate, I was tasked to create a workshop for internal Generate. Because we were early in the semester, I decided Designing for Manufacturing would be helpful for everyone in Generate.

Workshop

Generate as a product development studio is responsible for manufacturing rapid prototypes using 3D printers or CNCing. It is important to properly design parts for different manufacturing process. The optimized designs make work easier for the build studio support team and the team leads who need to confirm parts prior to printing. Addtioinally, there was a mini CNC machine inside the makerspace where parts can be manufactured from metal blocks.

I was responsible for creating a workshop for DFM of prototype parts. I created a list of participants and booked a space on campus to run the workshop. I coordinated with the Hardware Lead of Generate to run the workshop and presentation. Given his vast knowledge, he was able to field any questions and educate the participants on best practices and resources.

After the workshop, I created a sent out a feedback form to continue to further improve our processes.
